Hey, I got bored and almost changed the site's appearance just to play with stuff... I stopped myself in time to remind my stupid self that I don't lurk here often and I may destroy your minds when you all happen to log on.

So, is there any facelifts you would like, or shall I put my hands somewhere sensible and leave the site alone?

So...I think a lot of you now know that my NING account has been messing about for at elast a month now, probably longer. This is all the details I have about what's wrong with it, what i've discovered/ tested out, a a few random details that might help come to a conclusion. I sent a help email to NINg themselves but that seems to have come up a blank, with no reply, so let's see if we can brainstorm out of this one?
So...I think a lot of you now know that my NING account has been messing about for at elast a month now, probably longer. This is all the details I have about what's wrong with it, what i've discovered/ tested out, a a few random details that might help come to a conclusion. I sent a help email to NINg themselves but that seems to have come up a blank, with no reply, so let's see if we can brainstorm out of this one?

The Symptoms

1. The reply buton no longer works. I am unable to reply to another person's posts on any thread, as
clicking the reply link just shoots me to the top of the page and nothing happens.

2. Unless I'm starting a new discussion, the butto that allows me to attach a file to my post is completely absent, and the space it should be in is just...gone. The white bitis smaller and the replies start sooner.

3. Even if I am in the timeframe in which NING allows me to edit my post, the option is not possible to me anymore. It doesnt even come up with it as a suggestion - once it's posted, thats it. I cant correct or add anything without putting in another post to state it.

4. Though I can post blogs, I am unable to reply to them. It doesnt shoot me to the top of the page but instead just does nothing.

5. The chat is broken. It tells me I'm online with the little green light, but not how many people on the bar, as it should. Also, if I click anything to do with the chat it shoots me to the top of the page and again, nothing happens after this.

6. I cannot log out of my account the traditional way, as in pressing 'log out'. I have to go to my NING profile page and log out from there.

Discoveries to Date

1. The chat itself isnt broken, as I can access it from the 'chat' tab on the bar at the top of the discussions. As Max-Dan-Wiz lacks this button, I cant acces the chat on there at all.

2. Nothing is wrong with my account on another computer, which leads me to believe it is something my computer has picked up and is probably (effectively) blocking. I have no idea what it is, however, as I have tried emptying all histories, cookies and my cache and still it doesnt help me.

3. I have tried refreshing my browser, as well as logging in and out the long way, but to no avail. Spoiler Policytag:flockforum.ning.com,2010-02-02:2971573:Topic:464592010-02-02T23:08:00.593ZEndOfTheEarthhttp://flockforum.ning.com/profile/EndOfTheEarth

though, we can't expect everyone to keep quiet. It simply isn't
possible. So, in an attempt to make it easier on those of us that
aren't fortunate enough to get our hands on Fang this Thursday, I propose that the fan community does it's best to safeguard others from spoilers.

How do you ask? With a warning. Any of these will do:
*SP*
Spoilers
Significant Plot Details Follow
OmG Sp01lerzzzz!!!!!1!

How do I know if it's a spoiler?
Spoiler material is anything that hasn't been released to the general public by
Hachette. In short, if it isn't the book flap teaser from Amazon or the
first six chapters that were posted on Mr. Patterson's fansite, it's a
spoiler.

Does this apply to books 1-5?
No,
it does not. These books have been out all over the planet for an
entire year now, and everyone has had a fair chance to get their hands
on them.

Isn't this the job of the Moderators?
There
are no statements either in the Moderator rule book or in NING's Terms
Of Service to prevent spoilers. In short, the Moderators are powerless
in this matter. Therefore it is the job of the community to prevent spoilers.

You can't tell me what to do!
You're right. I can't. However it would be better for the rest of us if you listened. Consider it a community service.

Are you doing this to try to shut down "Fang New Info"?
Sievey
Kole Jackson has taken special precautions to make sure that the
information that was included does not contain any specific plot
information. Feel free to check it out after reading this.

What do I do if someone has posted a spoiler and won't put up a warning?
Don't
post on their thread. As a result the thread will eventually move to
another page from lack of attention, and can easily be found at a later
time and responded to, once you've read the book. DO NOT INSULT THE POSTER

Is this in effect forever?
Of
course not. One week after the US release, which is to say Monday,
March 22, will have been plenty of time for the packages to arrive from
BN and Amazon, and the fans to have visited their local bookstores over
the weekend. You can disregard this post after that date.

Only as a community can we prevent spoilers! I was thinking that it might be easier to follow confessions if there is a separate "Secret Confessions" category in the Forum with the login info as the description. That way, people can post their confessions individually, and will be able to track the responses much more easily than having it mixed in with the rest of them in one discussion.
Downside: Recent Discussions on the main page might be overrun with SC discussions due to their increase in numbers. But I suppose with enough determination, the regular threads will overthrow them. :P (if that didn't make any sense, then don't worry about it. I'm on no sleep...)
What do you guys think? Yay or nay? MDW Constitutiontag:flockforum.ning.com,2009-12-30:2971573:Topic:392172009-12-30T17:38:34.529ZFakehttp://flockforum.ning.com/profile/FakerthanFang
You read that right. Crazy and blasphemous, ain't it? Still, it seams reasonable-a set of rules for the moderators to go by, based on the opinions of the people who their boss is trying to please.

Now, don't get me wrong-I have no problem with countries without Constitutions. I hail from England, which has an, "unwritten," constitution. I just find that, if given the choice, I'd prefer to have one.

Now, what would get added to the constitution? I'm not saying we should say things like, "Don't ban any anti's ever." I'm thinking more along the lines of, "When you ban someone, send them an email so they know for what reason and for how long," as well as, "Don't ban someone because you think they might be an Anti who's been banned." I'm sure you've had, "Friends," who've been banned before-even if those, "Friends," never confirmed that they were actually you.

And yes, I'm aware that the moderators probably won't care. Still, if any of them think that our requests are reasonable, that would do us a world of good. Fact is, we aren't protected by anything. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

You may think that this idea is stupid. You may think that I'm stupid and arrogant for suggesting it. You may think that it's hopeless. And you'd be right. But we have to try, don't we?

On to business. Question one: Is this a good idea, or doomed for failure? Question two. What should we put on said constitution? One more forum category.tag:flockforum.ning.com,2009-09-17:2971573:Topic:103472009-09-17T17:31:03.645ZEndOfTheEarthhttp://flockforum.ning.com/profile/EndOfTheEarth
