Jumped very briefly back on to MDW to remind everyone, again, that NASA does indeed have a Near-Earth-Object detection system.
If it doesn't stop blowing I will smack a bitch.
Fuck I hate september.
It doesn't stop for a month.
Oh. My. God.
The wind has been absolutely awful here as well. Like unusually bad. And it's terribly depressing because we've just gotten the sun shining again, but you still have to be all rugged up because the wind is freezing. And also occasionally getting up to the flying branches what are you doing outside levels.
On the plus side, Winter is finally over!
There is nowhere in NZ that it's not raining/blowing a gale.
Thankfully it's gonna fine up sometime this week for a couple of days this week.
But usual september weather for both Aus and NZ is southerly front after southerly front. Rain. Freezingness.
Winter is over? We hadn't noticed - it's snowing more down south now than it has for most of the winter?!
@Emily: I always forget that you guys have reversed seasons.
Wait.
NZ gets snow?! I thought it was like Australia which... doesn't.
It's so lovely at the moment! The wind isn't blowing and I'm sitting outside and the sun is shining and I don't have class till 4.
Our Septembers usually aren't that bad, we get a whole bunch of rain around November-ish. But then, majority of my life we've been in draught, so still getting used the fact we get rain.
NZ gets snow. Lots of snow. NZ is where you go when you get tired of being warm.
Even parts of Australia get snow, but they're mostly hidden away on the tops of mountains, which are few and far between.
Ha, yeah, reversed seasons! It's kind of strange you guys in the North having Christmas in winter, when it's snowing and you can't go down to the beach and have a swim.
You're outside? I've been outside twice today. Once I nearly blew away, and the other time it rained and I nearly got blew away.
NZ gets snow. Not huge amounts near sea level but a fair dumping in the alps in the south island, and there's enough in the north island on Mt Ruapehu to support two skifields for 4-5months. My aunt lives in the middle of the south island and at minimum they have 2-3 weeks a year with snow on the ground. A coupla years ago they were completely cut off for a month by nearly 2m of snow. It was nuts.
Yeah, Aussie gets snow too, in the mountains in the east coast... there are a handful of skifields in the blue mountains too.
One has to keep in mind that climate is influenced by landmass and sea. If you're near sea, then because seawater doesn't readily change temperature then the air doesn't so much either and the climate is less extreme. Pretty much all of NZ does this. So do coasts everywhere. Big landmasses - well, land heats and cools really fast, so they get reaaaaaally hot and really cold. Canada does that.
So NZ stays between -5 and 15 degC in winter, and between 15 and 35 degC in summer. We don't get hugely cold temperatures (I think -22degC is the record), nor hugely hot (40degC + is rare). The hottest I've seen personally is 39C.
Aussie pretty much has the same temperature range, except for Central Australia (sand), Western Australia (sand and bogans), and the Northern Territories (Jungle and crocodiles). Also, except for when the place is on fire/under water/both.
Timing bro - the latest cold blast from hell antarctica is dropping by and it's snowing in Dunedin, Otago, Southland, a bit in Canterbury and we'll get a fairly good sprinkling in the hills up here.

An interesting point, though I don't see much of a change. We're switching out an implicit sociopath with an explicit sociopath, and removing the wings which were hardly used much anyway. Wondering if the people will agree, or if the mods are even awake enough to add a new category for it.
I read the first 25 chapters.
I wasn't terribly impressed.
See, I read that and I think "okay, I would read the hell out of Maximum Ride Accepts Being A Sociopath".
Mostly because I imagine it being the Doom comic but with wings.
RIP AND TEAR!
My brother got taken to A&E (the ER for people who use said term) in some discomfort after swallowing a bottle top.
There is an X-ray up on his facebook page.
No word on the kind of bottle top, nor the reason for swallowing it.
The doc said it'll just have to pass through naturally as it's not causing a problem. I bet s/he was snickering internally as s/he said it.
And this is the reason why males aged 18-25 have a much greater risk of death compared to females of the same age group. And also, the reason why it's almost impossible for the said age group to get car insurance that doesn't cost a limb and a firstborn.
