His dad is either dead or no one knows where he is, his mom is a feisty awesome old lady, and his sister is the rebel of the family. And I don't know why I haven't written about them before. The ter Borchts are pretty awesome.

Yeah, I can see how that would get annoying.
"Your emotional issues can wait until morning." Because, yes, at two am I had in depth emotion for my character in the fic, but fuck I wanted to sleep.
