We had a lesson like that in Renaissance, where we had to learn about 'social deviants' and the way they were governed, which is basically homosexuals and prostitutes. Makes for wonderful classroom conversation, no?
We didn't really have a text book, and historians don't really shy away from it, when they're not writing for the classroom at least. It helped me in my exam at least >.>
Our teacher's just more fond of using other books, and switching between Najemy or Martines, and a splash of Hale... and then uses an unbelievable amount of photocopies as well.
So what exactly have you been using the last six or so months?
Ours is changing next year or something, but that doesn't matter in the slightest, because I am done with Renaissance, and I'm not doing a history next year.
We did history grades 6-9 by location. 6th was Eastern Hemisphere (mostly South America), 7th Western Hemisphere (Mostly Europe/Middle East) and 8th US. In 10th we were just supposed to have World History. (Entire world, starting with the four cradles and moving onward)
Now, it's by time period.
6th is Ancient World
7th is. . . .something
8th is from 7th up to the Renaussiance.
10 is Renaussiance-Present
So, basically the book is for the new circullum, and we don't have all the knowledge (or at least some don't) from the previous years, which we need for our book. However, the other classes are doing just fine, it seems.
Ours is... kind of random. Mostly by time periods, I guess.
Yr 6 and below you get some basic knowledge on history of some sort.
Yr 7 Ancient worlds.
Yr 8 Dark Ages/ Medieval Europe
Yr 9 Australian History.
Yr 10 + it's optional, and you can choose what type. I did... American History last year.
