My mom's an alcoholic and drug addict. It runs in my dad's side of the family, too. People always tell me that I need to be careful.

Yeahhh.... it was a long time ago. It's alright, I'm just bitter.
But mostly the reason I bitched out that one girl on MX... y'all probably don't remember that, but she made the thread on her friend, with the drug addicted parent, who confided in her about it and the chick was gonna leave her friend because of that same reason.

Maybe it's just my environment rubbing off on me, but... I'm more for "If you're going to do drugs -- for God's sake be careful about it". (And would rather just not do drugs myself.)

It really depends on the kind of drug -- like, marijuana is safer than alcohol. My only issue, is that majority of people won't be safe about it, and it's dangerous when it gets out of hand. For most people, it's better to not start at all, but to each their own. (Unless you have or work with kids. Then, just, no. You shouldn't be doing that.)

*agrees* Especially... I mean, it takes a lot to tell somebody that for the first time. The poor girl had probably been planning on telling her a long time. That just sucks so much, I hope Cynthia (the chick on MX) ended up staying with her friend. >.<' Even Genn defended me on that one.

Alcoholism can be influenced by genetic factors, though, yes?

(And that makes me wonder if my mom's biological father [and his father too, apparently] had undiagnosed depression, and that was why they drank.)

Nurture'd prolly be easier,what with the twin studies, plus you could argue against nature as it may reform society/new means of discrimination and whatnot. XD
