There /are/ plenty of non-prep schools in Australia...
We did that too, and I ended up getting to take Algebra I and English I Honors classes in eighth grade, even though I failed Algebra II Honors the next year. :D
Eh, I had good reasons. I had the last lunch, which was right after marching band, and I hadn't started taking my ADD meds yet. It was the last class of the day, which was like "Nap time!" under those conditions. XD Plus, I'm not behind or anything. I'm still ahead, actually, since I took two math classes this year. I'm one of only four sophomores in my entire twenty-something student Pre-Calc class. XD
As the Debbie Downer corollary to everyone above me, I'm pretty terrible at math and really don't understand how people can like it.

But, eh, good for you :D

Stoner math was way more fun than the class I switched out of -- I actually learned something.
I'm terribleterribleterrible at geo, and decent at Algebra. Just not fabulous at any of it.

But it looks good and gets me into the AP classes I need for The Most Fucking Impossible Honors Program Ever.... which I signed up for.
I was in the sixteenth percentile Geometry grade at my school (I.E, only 16% of my grade was doing worse than I) and in the 100% percentile Algebra grade.

Needless to say, I was laughed at for a few weeks.
I don't know where I am in my school....
But I'm in the 80th-ish percentile in the class. I still have a low B, though, which is terrible...

XD
Like I said, I failed Algebra 2.

I made a high B in Geometry honors, though. XD Proofs are fun.

And yeah, I'm crazy, and the opposite of most people in my school.
My motto for every high school math class -- "You can pass with a C".
That's how I treat life in general. ^_^
^This.
*joins you in not understanding how people can like Maths*
