Not necessarily true. Yeah, back in their heyday some-odd multi-million number of years ago the Appalachians were volcanic, but since then that tectonic plate has stopped moving and as a result the entire east coast is pretty darn stable.
We're right on top of a fault line where I live, but it never, ever moves. o.O This makes me super paranoid. I've never experienced an earthquake, but sometimes I wonder...
Oh, that's right, I saw it on CNN three hours ago. That must have been pretty rough.
That's the Pacific Ring of Fire for you. I've only ever experienced one earthquake in my life, and that was whilst in Japan. I'm sure that a 7+ on the Richter Scale must be frightening though, so I hope that the damage to you has been minimal.

CNN, huh? I'm impressed 'lil ole us manged that.
I'm alright, so's my family from what I've heard. My flatmate's parents and extended family live in chch, and they're apparently all okay, which is good.
'Twas a PM. I don't know why, but I get randomly irritated when people send me messages like "I won't be here for a day because I'm going to grandma's."
It never irritates me if it's in a blog, which I can choose to read, or if it's for more than a few days when I might wonder where they are, but there's something so insignificant about the tiny periods of absence that God forbid go unannounced... It ruins the excitement of getting a message.
I figure it only matters if you're, say, a moderator of an active site like that (and yeah, piss on all of them) and your absence will be noticed. Then it's just smart to go "hey dudes, I'm gone not dead, don't start an anarchist commune".
