Okay, sweetheart, let me spell it out for you.

The word "atheist" literally means "lack of beliefs."

Case in point:

The latin root "a" means none, or lack of.
The root "the" means god or gods, divinity, religion.
The suffix "ism" denotes a cultural, political, religious, etc, belief system or following

"Atheism" is not a religion, it is a lack thereof. People can insult you because of your lack of beliefs, but they cannot "insult your religion."

And didn't I just say that I'm non-religious? I'm atheist, too, darling. And don't be condescending like that, "just cuz its not like ur religious beliefs." >.> Atheists don't have beliefs, religions do, and you'd do damned well to respect peoples' beliefs regardless of your views.

Atheists believe that there is no God. It's not the same type of belief, but belief regardless.

Either way, atheists aren't religious people, and it annoys me when they try to treat atheism like a religion. It isn't a religion, it's a lack thereof.

No, but you can bash other religions, not at all respectful, discriminate, still not respectful, assume things and damage the rep/name without proper knowledge, again unrespectful, etc. Not that other religions never have done the same to another/atheistic persons, but in today's world it's more or less unacceptable in first world countries.
