Oh, *headdesk* I know who this is now.
*feels horribly stupid*
Dyggy is win.
Sure, having multiple accounts is an instant ban IF the accounts are created to avoid the ban. Most violations are for things like vulgarity and if it's something that simple, you would get three chances before a ban. I can't list how we do everything because some is context involved and some violations are a ban right off the bat.
Member's don't get a PM when banned because on this platform, when a ban is issued all content goes with it, including any PMs we might send.
The PMs are displayed in an email, even after the account is banned.
Also, you're banning for old offences. The rules were there, sure, but they've been uninforced for 5 months. Banning for something said in February seems unreasonable to me. If you bother to send warnings, then you should allow the person to see what they've done wrong and judge them on future behaviour, not warn for April 15, warn for March 20, warn for February 10, then ban. Nobody has a chance then.
This won't be so much of an issue when we clean up the old dead threads. It just all takes time.
They search swear words through the discussion search function and warn for incidences then ban the member if they find too many. Correct me if I'm wrong, Moderator.
And hate? Of course, you're hated, how can you not be? I hope this is respectful enough, I don't mean any offence, but none of you understand the forum politics (and yes, they exist). You would earn a lot less hatred if you participated in threads, or lurked about reading conversations. I was warned for a message taken entirely out of context, because the search function can't give you that, it can't show you the social nuances of the thread or forum it was on. Also, by banning the user who was voted (by other users) Queen of MX, and is the most famous, prominent user on the site... well, you can see why that might sting a little, right?
On a different note, bannings in general come with a high degree of hate, whether the person was liked or disliked. Why? Because all their discussions are deleted. Posts that we worked hard to reply to. Posts that we treasured. You might have wonderful lives, better than mine and half the others here, this is what I do when I don't have to be stressing about university. This is what I do to chill. Having this place get turned into turmoil by mods is not my idea of relaxing. I come on here when I wake up and I'm scared to refresh the page. Will a ban message come up? Maybe I'll ask someone to check if my posts are still there... We're scared, Moderator. We don't like being scared, nobody likes being scared, so why make us so scared? There are other ways to mod. You can be respected without feared, in fact, being feared doesn't earn you any respect. That's why those banned people are rebelling.
Please don't ban me, I'm known for stating my opinion, my close friends say I'm brave, but I'm not, I don't want to be banned so please, please, don't ban me for posting my observations. Please? I've nearly hit 3000 posts, please don't take that away from me.
I don't want you to be scared. And, there is nothing wrong with your post that would warrant a warning much less a ban. I also want you all to have a place to gather. I think you would agree that could be accomplished while following rules.
But I am. Honest to God. Every night when I go to bed, I'm wondering if this will be my last night, every link I click, every email I check, it could all come up with the banned screen. I'm not the only one either. And you can't make me not be scared. More of my friends are being deleted as we speak, for posts 3 months old, by ModMike. We can't win. We can only exist in terror for a short while, until we're banned, then we either come back with aliases that you'll ban instantly without a single offence aside from actually coming back if you find out who they are, or we can leave and lose our 20 000 member community, lose our friends. So congrats on the good work... soon you'll win. We'll all be gone and the forum can be full of joy.
Are you paid to be here? How'd they recruit you anyway? I'm honestly just curious, no ulterior motives. Tell us about yourself then?
I'm the moderator supervisor for the company that MDW hired to moderate. What would you like to know about me?
Hmm, can Aussies join this company? I'm short on money and I can mod pretty well when I've got the rank for it...
I don't know... are you married? How old are you? You live in America? What part? Is your name really Katy? Why won't any of you talk to us? Do you get paid by the banning? Are you answering all these in incredibly sterile yes/no type language? Why? Moderators don't need to be aloof to be respected, y'know?
I'm __, ______, I go to university and study for my Bachelor degree. I love the internet, it's my life and I'm not ashamed of that. My uni friends accept it and think it's cute when I go off on a spiel about this site.
Oh give me a chance. I talk a LOT. Like I said, we just got here. I'm married, live in the US, my name is Katy, I don't get paid per ban, sterile answers, not sure, just trying to get to the end of this thread!
Things get hectic... are you banning the people in this thread? *loses more friends* And do you mean when the thread slows down you'll delete it?
Man, but 'give you a chance'? You've been here two days. Even huge (and moderated) forums have newb hazing and such. I don't think I've ever been on a forum where people are hired to mod though. Is it an interesting job? D'you get to choose the type of forums you mod for? Oh, off track, so why don't you guys give us a chance? Does it matter that there's some swearing? If you get paid to do this, then why not just cruise around the forums reading threads and deleting posts that have swear words or offensive content? That way you'll get the context it's being used in and the member themselves won't get deleted for 'old news'. We can't defend against our past, but we can play nice if we have the opportunity to do so.
I'm a n00b with 10 years experience moderating. LOL Good ole Vince, he cracks me up.
Wow... no offence, but for ten years you really aren't very good. And yes, you're still a newb, because every site is different... which you really should know, dear.
Sites are different, moderation is not.
Moderation should be tailored to the site for efficiency. If you were hired to moderate a site for motorbike discussion between 25-40 year old men, would you treat it the same as the Twisite you moderate?
Check the laws, free speech doesn't apply to privately owned companies, like this one that has this web site.
It's not about the rules, love, it's about respect. If all the big users respect the mods they won't want to swear because this would be putting the moderator in a negative position. This gets passed on to new users and the social dynamic works successfully, instead of having rebellions springing up everywhere and people leaving. It's just about efficiency really. Do you consider it more efficient to fight 20 000 people tooth and nail until everyone is too scared to fight anymore? Or would it be better to have them happily following the rules, with the occasional nudge towards being good?
I don't need a life, this is my full time job. No I don't see what you're saying. If it was your job to moderate and someone hired you to do that, if banning is part of that, that's what you'd do!
Banning is meant to be a small part of that. It's meant to be for extreme cases, posting illegal content for example, banning on this kind of network loses everything so it should be used even less than a usual site. It's not meant to be an everyday thing.
Good night all, have a good night. Maybe someday we'll all understand each other. It just won't happen tonight.
You might think that... but most of us understand you, we just strongly disagree. You, on the other hand, if you really have been at this for ten years, I don't doubt you'll be unwilling to really listen to us or bother to understand. Good night, all the same, Katy. Whoever said there's no rest for the wicked?
*loves this person* I don't know who (s)he is, but god damn she's awesome.
I wish ModKaty would email me and tell me why I was banned, I think I may pm her on TTS, since I don't care to much about my account there anyway.
As do I, friend, as do I. *grave nod* I took out any identifying information, though, and might repost it. It's rather disjointed because it's only me vs. Katy, not taking in the other people posting. Didn't have the time to archive it all. *sigh*
>.> Pity the joining system is so convoluted these days. I remember when I had 6 spare accounts (before the mods even came) all waiting for use... *sigh* maybe if I remember the emails I used I can still access them without verification.
The question about Aussies is fairly obvious, as there aren't that many who were active back then, although most of the people have been around long enough to remember you as more than a name are antis. I doubt the mods would remember that detail either.
Yeah, I had a back up account from back when the mods first came, but I can't for the life of me remember the email I used. So, fingers crossed I don't get banned.
Damnit! Thought I got every reference. But yeah, I doubt the mods even bothered to remember me. I stopped posting long before they banned me, and I think they only did that to get rid of my Anti-threads. They probably wrote me off back then and figred I wouldn't be back/be a problem or whatever. 'Good zebra... sit, roll over, okay, play dead!'

If I want my other accounts I'll have to start up my ancient computer to get them. Or meditate.
