Here is the one I'm for sure using for the contest:
Left Behind
My shoes rub against my heels,
as my dirty feet press on.
The crushing sound of gravel beneath me,
drawing me closer.
Closer to home.
As the cold air bites into my bare arms,
I look down,
just by chance to see a lone forgotten mitten lying in the dirt.
Forgotten and forsaken, it sleeps.
Never to reach that warm place that some child calls home.
And I feel a strange pang of sadness deep within myself,
willing me,
telling me,
to pick it up.
To dust it off and welcome it into my home.
But instead,
my eyes leave the lonely sight,
looking up to focus towards home once again.
Leaving the sad mitten to wait for another kind soul.
Here are other choices:
1.Perfection
I love those cold winter nights,
When the snow pours down from the heavens,
To coat my front yard,
And I sit inside,
With a cup of Cocoa in my hands,
And a blanket around my shoulders,
Nose pressed against the glass,
Leaving a gathering of mist on the glass,
As I peer out at the cold night,
And I watch,
As each snowflake is caught for that one simple moment,
Of absolute beauty and awe,
Caught in the pool of light cast from my window.
I watch them tumble and shine,
With the adoration of a child,
Wishing that I had the time,
To see each and every one,
Before they sink to the ground,
And mix into the abyss,
As there individuality is lost,
In the snow drift beneath my window.
2. You were always there,
When no one else stood by me,
When I was afraid,
When I was alone,
When I was right,
And even when I was wrong,
You never gave up hope that you could make me a better person,
That you could make me strong,
That you could make me loving,
That you could make me good again.
Until now,
Now you won’t even look at me,
You hate me and I can feel it,
I can see it,
I can hear it,
In your every word,
And now, no one stands by me,
And I wonder if I’m beyond hope,
Because if you wont love me,
Who will?
3.Love
The airport is alive with activity,
People hastening,
Pushing,
Rushing,
She swims against the sea of people,
Fighting her way through,
Eyes ever scanning,
For a sight she’s waited so long to see,
Too long,
And then,
A wave of recognition washes over her face,
And there he is,
Their eyes meet,
And for a moment,
Nothing else matters,
Nothing but him,
Suddenly time has begun again,
And she urgently fights her way through the bodies,
Her eyes never leaving his face,
As if now that she has found it,
She will never let it go.
The moment she reaches him,
They embrace,
For what seems like an eternity,
It is a moment so simple,
Beautiful,
Intimate,
Perfect,
Then, the break apart,
And head for the doors,
Hand in hand,
Home together,
Home again.
I really suck at giving feedback, my 'critique' is usually limited to "good" or "bad." But these, are very good, I must say. I wish I could actually be of some help. I especially like the mitten one, and the second of your other choices, though.
They're all quite good :D I like "Left Behind" most. Grammatically... Second stanza of #1, "there" should be "their", and second stanza of #2 "wont" should be "won't".
