Lol, forget how easily offended my brother is when you point out his flaws. It's funny because that's ALL he does to everyone else. He spent a good two minutes ranting about how overweight (I should mention I don't think I'm overweight at all) I am after I pointed out that he has bad skin.

Ah, fifteen years of non-stop insults from older siblings has made me unable to give a shit about their opinions anymore. This is great. And since they're not me, they get SO self-conscious about their flaws. I can poke at them all the time and they get so upset and when they try and retaliate, I simply lack the ability to care.

bwahahhaa, I'm probably an asshole from getting so much enjoyment out of this...

I've come to the same conclusions about my husband's criticisms of me. And it's been almost fifteen years for me, too.

School starts tomorrow. The last year of high school. Senior year.

AAAAAHHHHHHH....

I don't want to grow up. :(

Same here, though it's junior year now.

Bah. This summer was the.fucking.best.

Don't worry. First two years of college, not much changes.
But are you still going to school in the same area/city/town/whatever? Living with your parents?

I mean, I'm really hoping everything changes... >.>

No, I've gone from suburb to city, and live at the dorm.

I mean, people get over themselves socially, but beyond that, my Freshman year felt like 13th Grade. Still all general classes, still mediocre food, still your parents calling your mobile devices to bother you at inconvenient times.

Ah, I understand. See for me, it doesn't matter for things like general classes, each year always feels radically different. Maybe it because I move all the time or something. I'm not sure, I just can always find huge difference from each grade.
I'll be there in two weeks. . . >.>

WARNING: This is as close to spam as anything I'll ever post.

The info could be helpful to the soon-to-be college bound. I'm posting it in lieu of "forwarding" the email I receive. Since I am unemployed and yet I've been receiving this newsletter for years, perhaps it is not very useful.

This is a response to the "growing up" discussion.

Editor's Note: ABOUT THIS ISSUE ...

What should you be thinking about if
you're starting or returning to college
this fall? This issue offers three
aspects of college life that should be
on your mind about now:

You don't need to choose a major immediately
upon starting college, but you should be thinking
about what you'd like to major in. Before that, though,
you'll want to separate college-major myths from realities
with Dr. Randall Hansen's quiz on that subject.

You'll want to think about gaining work experience because
employers will value that experience highly when you
graduate. Dr. Hansen's 15 Quick Tips for Gaining
Valuable Experience in College will steer you in the
right direction.

An important subset of gaining experience is
partaking in internships. Steven Rothberg
offers his take on characteristics of successful
interns.

As you prioritize making the most of your
college years, we wish you much happiness and
success.

Q TIPS: QUICK AND QUINTESSENTIAL TIPS
TO GUIDE YOUR JOB SEARCH AND WORK LIFE

* In "How to Translate Your College Experience into a Job,"
Heather Huhman lists these career-boosting advantages to
the college experience:
-Soft skills.
-Leadership experience.
-Accomplishment stories for your resume and cover letter, and interviews.
-Understanding of interests and skills.

Huhman also offers a slideshow, "How an On-Campus
Job Can Get You Hired Post-Grad," in which she discusses
the benefits of an on-campus job, lists several possible
jobs, and tells how to leverage this on-campus
experience.

Read the article at http://tinyurl.com/3gfhj6z and view
the slideshow at http://tinyurl.com/42q789l.

* The Web-based app, College Packing List
(http://www.collegepackinglist.com/),
includes categories for classroom and
computer needs. The app enables students to
create custom shopping lists and provides
shopping-guide links.

* The annual student survey conducted by the
National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)
revealed that more than 61 percent of students who
did a paid internship in the for-profit sector had a job offer
at the time of graduation. In comparison, approximately
38 percent of students performing an unpaid internship
in the for-profit sector had a job offer, and just a third of
students who did not have any type of internship experience
had a job offer.

More than half of the internships undertaken by the
college Class of 2011 were paid, the study showed.

The study indicated that 62 percent of students in internships
were interested in working full-time for their internship
employer, regardless of whether they were paid as interns.

Among respondents to the survey, paid interns spent
more time on professional tasks while unpaid interns
were more likely to perform clerical work, suggesting
that paid internships may offer employers more of the
type of experience they’re seeking in their new hires.

Read a press release about the study at
http://tinyurl.com/3ogeu7f.

Also on the subject of internships: Though written
from the employer's perspective, Todd Raphael's
"What Top Internship Programs Look Like" offers insight
into the factors that make an exceptional internship.

I have five hours until bed.

Thus, five hours to do the following:

-re-read Gulliver's Travels, and annotate appropriately (hello, Sparknotes, old friend)

-finish annotating three New York Times articles (which is actually rather fun, albeit tedious)

-write a biography paragraph or two on the columnist whose work I'm annotating

-write a response "column" to one of the published ones

Holy shit, guys. You'd think I'd have learned by now that procrastination is a REALLY BAD IDEA.

*headcactus*

Hee hee... cactus... I lol'd. :'D
