The Ayn Rand Institute throws money at people who write essays about Ayn Rand's novels. One of this year's prompts that I am eligible to enter is a real softball of a character analysis question:

 

Why does Francisco D’Anconia, heir to the greatest fortune in the world and a productive genius with boundless ambition,change his course and pose as, of all things, a playboy?

 

I've started outlining a response and would like to hear someone else's thoughts on the matter before I spend any more time on it.

One of my required books for AP US history got a positive review from Glenn Beck.  I'm not looking forward to this school year.
