The contrary, I find that while content that you can omit is more worthy of parenthesis, I tend to attribute strikethroughs to humorous or sarcastic flavored statements.

Yeah, that's how I read them. Italics is for emphatic emphasis, Bolding is for angry emphasis or highlighting things in others' quotes. CAPS is for really angry or humorous emphasis, and strikethrough tends to be for sarcasm. Or good natured insults. I don't tend to use underlining, except for Science!

 

Of course, it's all fluid, some people prefer different ways of reading things.
