Well if anyone knows some vague Cantonese you might have a bit of hope. Japanese has similar basic words, of course that being said you'd also have to know which words SOUND the same but are different... Reading it might be an issue too, the only simple numbers are 1-3... And the characters are completely different from traditional Chinese.
