"I have what?" I hadn't heard Roland sound that panicked in years.
"Space AIDS," Reilly repeated. Worryingly, he didn't seem to be struggling to keep a straight face.
"What does that translate to in Earth diseases?" Roland's voice sounded far too calm, but judging from the death grip he had on my hand, he was just as worried as I was.
Reilly looked nervous. "It's... what we call anything we have no idea what it is."
"You really have absolutely no idea?" I interrupted.
"Zip," Reilly said, skewering me with a stony glare that I could've sworn I knew from somewhere. "I ran every test twice, personally, just to be sure. We have no idea."
Roland took a deep breath and said something quiet (and doubtless uncomplimentary) in German.
"Thanks, Reilly," I said.
Roland stood up, and said calmly, "Jeb, I think we're done here. Let's go."
I followed him out of Reilly's office, keeping my fear away through an effort of will -- without a solid diagnosis, I had no idea what was wrong with Roland. Not knowing what was wrong with him, I was helpless to do anything.
I just got back on and Mom's forcing me off of the computer. Undoubtedly I will be back in the morning when nobody else is here. >:( Oh well, hope I get to talk to you guys again someday. Grrrr. G'night anyway.
