Suspension is not a ban. Period.

Suspension is where you are not allowed to come for a certain amount of time, but are allowed back in after the time served away from where-ever.

Ban is where you are never allowed back.

EDIT: I now realize this isn't what you meant. Oops. XD

@Mudkip: XD No, but suspensions used to allow you to keep your posts and profile and stuff, you just weren't allowed on the site.
