Yep.

Chinese head tax was skimmed over briefly (pissed me off) and the POWs of WWI and WWII were also skimmed. It liked to tell us about the awesomeness of epicness of Canada's work in WWI and WWII. Surprisingly, we had an entire chapter dedicated to the abuse of Acadians, Aboriginals, and children, but no little/no mention of the abuse that Chinese and Irish went through making the railroad. And they pretty much take NO blame on the extinction of the Beothuk.

Also it tells of the awesomeness of the power of freedom. And I think it insulted the Americans by saying everyone who went to America would eventually become "American" with a hint of their culture while Canada is and I quote, "A mosaic of cultures."

Bahaha. I think every country likes to pull the "and we are a magical melting pot" schtick in their textbooks.

We're very, very prideful. Rare is the time you'll hear about Americans doing something bad. Custer? HERO, GODDAMMIT, NO MATTER HOW MANY FILTHY INJUNS HE KILLED. And we still have people who maintain that the pre-Civil War South was awesome as fuck, despite, y'know, slavery and all.

XD My social teacher took it very seriously.

... The southerns still believe that...? I thought it was a myth. We just pin our blame on everyone else... Oh? We killed a bunch of people for oil. AMERICA STARTED IT, WE'RE JUST GOING WITH THE FLOW.

Some people do. Most probably don't.

Also, we hardly learn about the War of 1812. Mainly because y'all whipped our asses.

We were shown cartoons of how, "CANADA TOTALLY WON AND AMERICA SUCKS BALLS. HERE IS UNCLE SAM AND HIS EVULLL."

THen we moved onto, "America is violent. Here's why..."

Public school can be pretty bad, but I got through okay. The sex ed is godawful, though: abstinence-only for the most part, so you'd better have an internet connection if you want to learn anything about how to fuck or how to keep yourself disease-free.

Other than sex ed, the education itself ain't too bad. And Texas is huge, which means that whatever the crazy fucks there decide they want from textbook companies is what the rest of the states get, too.

Also, I come from the Midwest and pretty much my entire social circle including vague acquaintances went to public school. I know very few people who went to private school -- they have a reputation of being creepy, hardass, or extremely religious.

Okay.

That makes this a bit better.

I was seriously thinking for a second every "decent" kid out there went to some sort of private school. Maybe this is only in the "big" cities like NYC and Boston? 'Cause that's mainly where my teacher went to describe the crazies who went to school there...

I'm two steps from living in a cow town, so yeah, it's probably an East Coast thing. They're a little prissy. Whereas we ride horses to school.

*lives on the East Coast*

It's really only in big cities...innercity schools are absolutely hell (my Spanish teacher taught at several for 10 years) so anyone who can go to a private school there would probably take that option...

That being said, it depends on the city, too, and also innercities are often where "experiments" like charter schools, new teaching methods, etc. are tested out...sometimes the teachers and programs there are really good and it's just the kids who aren't trying. And sometimes it's all just a fail in general.

Oh really, I ride polar bears to school. Maybe one day we can trade?

XD I live in one of Canada's "bigger" cities. We have a little over 1 million people in the surrounding area. Including the illegal immigrants who stole refugee status.

The metro area (where I live) of Denver has about 1 million people. Denver itself counts 600 000.

New York City has like 8 and a half million people. That's like my state, Montana, and Wyoming together.

Alberta takes up half of the midwest in America.

We have a grand total of 3 million people. Officially the fourth largest province population wise. We got ten provinces.

Fourth largest in America is freaking huge. And like, half the geographical size. (What is Colorado anyways? Tis rather small isn't it?)
