In the middle of Googling for old Nazi documents so I'd have a basis, I realized that I own Nazi-printed, uh, materials.

Thanks, great-grandad.

@Nathan: Oh really? How did he get his hands on those?
Comment by nathan_p on October 4, 2010 at 7:52am
They're books for teaching children -- I think I have a seventh-grade textbook and just a book of guidance for young people.

See, he went over to Germany after the war to help out with providing nutrition to POWs, and apparently that's when he picked up some books on a lark.

Happily, further Googling showed that Nazi letters were just typewritten, so I don't get to torture you with Gothic script.

(I'm also comparing our text to legit Nazi memos, and I think we've got a pretty passable simulacrum.

Which may be one of the most morbid things I've written today.)

No, I know. I meant I was working on one you didn't mention. Then I realized it was one of the memos. And I was like "Oh".

Very, very slowly working on the Nazi letter. With this much time put into it, it should turn out good, or else I'll be angry with myself. >:C

I just realized: In an odd twist of fate, February 14, the day the ARG ends and the book is released, is Valentine's Day.
Irony Much?

*giggle* That's kind of ironic.

I decided to not just slap together some Courier text on a background for the letter... no... I decided to have a go at swiping letters from an original document to write the text. Which is why it's taking so long, since basically it's the same process as for, say, a ransom note...

Would it take less time to construct a new font?
Comment by nathan_p on October 4, 2010 at 9:54am
Probably not -- see, the document I'm using for both background and as a text resource is already somewhat blurry, meaning that the letters vary every time they appear.

...this does mean that what little I have finished looks great.

For the bulk of the letter (I basically worked up the "to XXX" fields and cleared out the original text), we'll see.
